Ukraine resettlement scheme - Information for schools

We have added some additional information for schools regarding In Year applications for children who are arriving from the Ukraine. This can be found at Gloucestershire In Year AdmissionsThere is also FAQ’s and a process map for schools to follow for further guidance.

The LA has now been able to offer the following support to children who have been placed under the Homes for Ukraine (HFU) scheme in Gloucestershire:

  • Children who are entitled under statutory policy should apply here New, Lost or Damaged School Bus Pass applications - Gloucestershire County Council
  • All children will receive a public transport bus pass, allowing a maximum of 50 journeys which will be sent directly by our ITU department.
  • Children will be entitled to Free School Meals, details on how to claim will follow in due course
  • School uniform support may be available, details to follow

In year applications will be considered by schools, and places will be offered in accordance with each school’s published admissions criteria. The school has 10 /15 days to make a decision about admission. Once offered the place should be taken up within 15 days. It is important that a copy of the application form is sent immediately to  in order that the In Year team can gather information for the DFE,  provide further advice and guidance to schools, where necessary,  and ensure that families are supported throughout the application process.

The Education Secretary has permitted LAs and Schools to exceed their Admission Numbers for Ukrainian families where no reasonable alternative is available. (Definition of reasonable – travel time to school should be a maximum of 45 minutes for primary aged children and 75 minutes for secondary aged children).  If OAA Schools and Academies want LA advice before considering under this category, please email a copy of the pupil’s application form to  with the contact details for the  Admissions Officer at the school in order that we can discuss  the individual case with you.

In exceptional circumstances, if an area emerges where it is difficult to offer children places due to a lack of available space, we can liaise with schools directly as appropriate to see if additional places can be made available.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank schools and education colleagues for their support and commitment to help children and their families during these challenging times. It is very much appreciated and recognised by Gloucestershire County Council teams.

Information on funding streams to support the HFU children is not yet available and further updates will follow in due course.
