Lord Agnew (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the School System) issued a letter to Directors of Children’s Services requesting that it is shared with state schools. Read the ‘Guidance for schools on leaving the EU’ letter online.

Wave 14 of the Free Schools programme - New Secondary School, Gloucester area

Following on from the review of secondary school places in the Gloucester city area completed in June 2018, and a subsequent review of the latest forecasts and cohort of secondary Year 7 allocations for September 2019, it is now clear that there will be a need for a new secondary school to meet the growing demand for secondary places across the city and in particular, new housing development coming forward in the near future.

We would therefore welcome a conversation with any sponsor trust who is interested in submitting a Wave 14 Free School bid to open a new secondary school in the Gloucester area from 2023/24. There will be a small projected shortfall from 2020, which the LA will be looking to address through temporary expansions of existing secondary schools, however demand for places increases significantly from 2022/23 onwards.

The closing date for bid submissions is noon on 30 September 2019.

Guidance on how to open a Free School (Wave 14) and how to submit bids is available on the DfE website, including criteria https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/free-school-application-guide
