Alternative provision schools
Alternative Provision (AP) schools have the same delegated powers and duties as maintained schools and are no longer a central service provided by the Local Authority
Schools can contact the AP school directly to discuss what may be available to support them with children at risk of exclusion.
In addition, the Local Authority has commissioned a number of places from the AP schools to provide education for children who have been permanently excluded from school, children who do not have a school place, and children who have moved schools because of the Child-in-Care Transfer protocol.
The Altus School is the Local Authority's new, single alternative provision for young people in Gloucestershire, bringing together the LA maintained AP schools of Cheltenham & Tewkesbury (CTAPS) and Stroud & Cotswold (SCAPS) - which merged in 2022 to form Severn Valley School - and Gloucester & Forest AP School (GFAPS).
