Autism and ADHD assessments for children and young people
The Children’s Autism and ADHD Assessment Service is hosted within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust. This single service will bring together the Social Communication and Autism Assessment Service (SCAAS), CAMHS Neurodiversity Team and the Paediatric (under 11s) ADHD Clinic within the hospital. This is a multi-agency team comprising of the following practitioners:
- Clinical Psychologists
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Paediatricians
- Psychiatrists
- Occupational Therapist
- Non-Medical Prescribers
Referrals into the service can be made by any Health, Education or Social Care professional working with the child or young person. Before a referral is made for an assessment a Team Around the Child (TAC) / Family (TAF) meeting should be arranged to bring professionals together to explore the child’s needs. Support should then be put in place via the Gloucestershire Graduated Pathway.
The child will need to be on a My Plan+ (or equivalent) or have an EHCP before a referral is made to the service. Where a child has a My Plan+ two review cycles of the plan alongside the completion of a My Assessment, must have taken place before an Autism and/or ADHD assessment is requested, to ensure presenting needs have been addressed and appropriate holistic support is in place. The professional completing the referral will need to put together supporting information for the referral, including a Family Information Form completed by parents and carers.
Please be aware that due to very high levels of demand, there is a long wait for both autism and ADHD assessments.
To refer to the service, a professional will need to complete the online Referral Form and attach the Family Information Form as well as the following supporting information for it to be considered:
- MyPlan+ or EHCP (or equivalent). All children and young people should have a plan of support in place prior to referral for an assessment
- SENCO/Teacher reports if in a setting
- Therapy reports (if involved)
- Reports from Educational Psychology/Advisory Teaching Service (if available)
