You Said, We Did

As a person-centred service, Gloucestershire Shared Lives is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the Carers who work with us and the people we all support. We share regular "You Said, We Did" updates through our social media pages and email, but you can also find highlights on this page.

You said that the hourly rate for Outreach payments was not competitive compared to PA rates. We introduced and uplift to our Outreach rate, which is now £11.71 per hour and will increase annually in line with the global uplift.

You said that you wanted more opportunities to tell us about the things that are important to you. We organised bi-monthly Carer Feedback Forums for you to tell us about the support you need and the changes you want to see.

You said that you had to provide many different recordings, and this is time-consuming and detracts from your care. We introduced a new online recording platform, CHARMS, to cut down on the paperwork that you need to create and store.

You said that you wanted the people you support to be more involved in their care. We have launched a co-production group to develop our resources and enable people to share with us the things that are important to them. They are helping to shape the information that we share with new people coming into Shared Lives.

You said that you wanted support to understand the Mental Capacity Act and how it applied to your role. We organised and delivered several workshops around the MCA and how it applies to your role.

You said that the information we shared and the forms we used were not accessible for the people you support. We have all been trained in writing Easy Read documents and have now developed an Easy Read license agreement, arrangement agreement and statement of purpose.

You said that you would like more opportunities to meet other new Carers working with GSL. We are hosting events over the coming year, for Carers to be able to meet up.

You said that it can be difficult to fit in observations during the working day around other commitments. We have started carrying out evening observations and working creatively with our Ambassadors to support new Carers to complete their assessments.

You said that you wanted to be able to access meaningful training that supported your professional development. We have provided Hate Crime training, and have booked sessions with Healthy Lifestyles, People Plus, Inclusion Gloucesterhire, Headucate & GDASS over the next year.
