My Education

If you are not living with your family it does not need to affect your learning. In fact it can be a good opportunity to get extra help. You can get one to one tuition if you’ve missed out on some school work and need help to catch up or if you’re good at something and want to get even better.
The Virtual School Team will make sure you get all the help and support you want and need. The team is led by a Virtual Head Teacher.
Personal Education Plan (PEP)
A PEP is part of your care plan that helps check whether you’re getting the support you need. It should say who’s going to help you to do the best you can in your education and how they’ll do it.
Here are some of the things that will be in your PEP:
- What schools you’ve been to; how often you went there; what you achieved and whether you have any special educational needs. It will also say why you left.
- Information about education or training place that you are at now.
- Details of any special help or support you need. This could be one to one tuition, as well as any help you get or activities you take part in outside of school.
- How your carer will help with your education and interests, like hobbies and sports.
Where will I go to school?
If it’s possible you will stay in the same school but this might not be possible if you move to live in a different area. We will make sure that you have your say on which school you go to and that the school is doing enough to support you.
If you move placement, Social Workers and IRO's will do as much as they can to make sure your education is not disrupted. We will only move you if it’s the best thing for you.
Who needs to know I am looked after?
Only the people who need to know you are in care will know. It’s up to you if you want to tell your friends or other people.
At school you will have a Designated Teacher (DT) who will know you are looked after. They are there to help you do the best you can in your learning and if you have any problems at school they will help you sort them out.
Your PEP is YOUR individual learning plan, and you should be supported to achieve this plan regardless of where you go for your education.
