Our campaigns and projects

Through what you tell us, we may decide to do a project or a 'campaign' to make a change to something to better support you and other children and young people in care.

2018

Campaign 1

What makes a good placement

What was it? Looking at what makes a good placement for children in care.
Why was it important? Gloucestershire County Council were looking at the 'sufficiency strategy' (making sure that there are enough carers to look after children and young people and that there are lots of options)
What you said?

You said there were three overall important things that we need to look at

  • You want placement stability: if you have to move you want to know why and want the opportunity to be involved
  • You want to know what information is being shared with carers and organisations; you understand information sharing needs to take place, to support them to meet your needs.
  • But above all you want continuity of care; to feel cared for, loved and a sense of belonging, that the professionals who work with you to want the best for you.

The ambassadors are working hard with the commissioning team and the social workers to make sure they understand what is important and are going to be working with you to be the 'Quality Assurer' of placements as you know best.

2019/2020

This year we have 3 main campaigns that we want to work on;

Campaign 1

IRO consultation forms

What is it? Looking at and creating new consultation forms for you child in care reviews.
Why is it important?  Lots of you say that you no longer like the current consultation forms (buttons) and that they are always the same.
What have we done so far? We have now created some new consultation forms. Do let us know what you think.

Campaign 2

Language That Cares

What is it? Lots of you have said that you don't always know what things means when social workers write things down or say things to you.
Why is it important?

Language is really important and it also especially important to know what is going on.

Professionals need to understand that not everyone speaks the same language as them, and for children it can feel complex and overwhelming, and sometimes even embarrassing, as there is a lot of stigma attached to some of the terms used by professionals.

What are we doing We are creating a 'dictionary' of words for professionals to use and removing acronyms. We (the ambassadors) are working with all sorts of workers to look at language.

Campaign 3

Pathway Plans

What is it? As part of the bright spots survey last year, you said that you didn't always understand your pathway plans and that you didn't always know what it is.
Why is it important? It is important that you understand your pathway plan and that you are involved.
What have we done so far? A new pathway planning tool has been created following lots of meetings with social workers and managers and after working with a group of young people on your behalf. Social workers are currently being trained in how to use them so you should have a new pathway plan. Ask your social worker for more information
