What are the rules you must follow?

As part of the rules and regulations, you must familiarise yourself with and understand the rules you must follow in the exam room. The rules you must follow can be found at the following link: https://www.jcq.org.uk/exams-office/information-for-candidates-documents/ .

You must read and familiarise yourself with the following documents:

What should you bring with you?

  • You may bring your own black ink pens in a clear pencil case, however we will supply all equipment for you.
  • You are permitted to bring your own cold drinks, provided they are in a bottle which does not have any text or pictures on them. Food is not permitted in the exam room
  • You must bring a form of photo ID with you to your exam. Acceptable photo ID includes:
    • UK or foreign photocard driving licence (full or provisional)
    • Passport
    • Work ID Badge
    • National identity card
    • Blue disabled driver's pass
    • Student ID card (youth/student accounts only - NUS & Student Union cars are not accepted)
    • Citizen Card
  • If you do not have photo ID, please contact Adult Education Exams Office for further support and guidance.

What is not allowed in the exam room?

The following items are not allowed in the exam room. Possession of these items is against the rules and may lead to disqualification.

  • Mobile Phones
  • Watches
  • Notes
  • ipods/ipads
  • MP3 players

What do you do if you cannot attend an exam?

You must inform the Exams Office immediately at adedexams@gloucestershire.gov.uk

PLEASE NOTE : DUE TO A LARGE NUMBER OF CANCELLATIONS OF EXAMS AT SHORT NOTICE, WE HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE UNWANTED STEP OF CHARGING A £25 CANCELLATION FEE IF CANCELLED WITHOUT GOOD REASON.

Adult Education in Gloucestershire can only accept Private Candidates for Functional Skills English and Maths Level 1 or Level 2.

Private candidates must also be aged 18 or over. 

Private candidates can register their interest by emailing our Exams Officer at adedexams@gloucestershire.gov.uk 

Exam Charges 

Exams are charged at the following rates:

  • Functional Skills Maths - £200
  • Functional Skills English - £300

This charge will cover exam registration, certification and exam fees and allows you to re-take one additional exam for each qualification.

How to make payment

Our finance team can accept various payment methods, and should you wish to proceed please let us know how you would like to pay so we can instruct them accordingly. Please note that payment can be made in one instalment, or you can arrange to pay by instalments. Adult Education would require full payment in advance of you being entered for your exams.

Dates of Exams

Functional Skills exams take place throughout the year. For available dates, please contact our Exams Officer at adedexams@gloucestershire.gov.uk please note that if you wish to book an exam with us you would need to notify us at least one month in advance. Links to book your exam will be sent out to you once you have enquired with us.

Should you require any Access Arrangements with your exam we would need to have evidence i.e. an EHCP or medical letter. Extra costs may incur for certain access arrangements.
