Participation and demographics
A total of 408 people engaged with the public consultation and participated in the survey. Additional comments were received by email and social media which have also been taken into consideration.
Most of the responses (80%) were from residents who lived near the scheme; with the next most significant category of respondents (12%) being those who were not local but who cycled the route. Much smaller numbers of responses were received from those who worked (5%) or owned businesses (1%) near the scheme.
Of these, a higher proportion were male respondents (62%) compared to female respondents (30%).
The highest number of respondents came from the 35-44 age group (22%); followed by the 45-54 (21%) and then those aged 55-64 (20%) and 25-34 (12%). There was a lower response rate from older people (only 10% from those aged 65-74, and 3% from those 75 or over).

Do you own a bicycle (or e-bike) at the moment?
A high proportion of the respondents (78%) own a bicycle, compared with only 22% who do not.
Do you think more people should take up cycling?
73% of respondents thought that more people should take up cycling which suggests a positive view on cycling in general within the county. A smaller proportion (28%) did not agree.
How would you describe your cycling ability?
Majority of the respondents (62% confident + 3% semi-professional) consider themselves as having an advanced level of cycling ability, cycling for fun as a hobby or commuting to work on a bicycle. However, there is a proportion (15%) of those who consider themselves to be novice cyclists.
How do you feel about the current layout and space available for cyclists?
51% of respondents felt dissatisfied with the current cycling infrastructure available on this route, although 49% felt that the current facilities were acceptable.
Would a Cycleway encourage you to cycle more often?
43% of respondents stated that the proposed cycleway improvements would encourage them to start cycling to Cheltenham, Gloucester, to destinations in-between or to cycle more often. This is compared with 48% who said it would not, and 10% who were unsure.
Will a cycleway benefit the communities along the B4063 Cheltenham Road?
47% of the respondents felt that the cycleway along Cheltenham Road would be beneficial to the local community. 44% felt that it would not be beneficial and 10% who were unsure.
A higher number of respondents (48%) compared with (45%) felt that the new cycleway would make it a better place to live, by improving the environment, air quality and tackling climate change.
A much higher number of respondents (55% compared to 39%) felt that the new cycleway would make cycling safer and more convenient.
A much higher number of respondents (57% compared to 36%) felt that the new cycleway would enable people to improve their fitness and health.
Similar numbers of respondents (46% compared to 44%) felt that the new cycleway would help support good mental health for people nearby.
A much higher number of respondents (56% compared with 37%) felt that the new cycleway would help young people to cycle to school.
A higher number of respondents (54% compared with 43%) felt that the new cycleway would provide an alternative to driving a car for some trips.
A higher number of respondents (51% compared with 40%) felt that the new cycleway would give people more confidence to start cycling.
A higher number of respondents (47% compared with 42%) felt that the new cycleway would help people without a car to access jobs and training opportunities.
