Key design changes following the feedback
Following the consultation and having reviewed the feedback we received, we have made the follow changes to the scheme design:
- Provided the opportunity for cyclists travelling eastbound, between Old Cheltenham Road and Horsbere Brook to cycle on the carriageway and avoid the shared use footway/cycleway should they wish.
- Bus bays in some locations have been extended to allow buses to pull off the carriageway to maintain traffic flow.
- Improved bus waiting areas have been included at bus stop locations to ensure they are of a good standard and are pleasant to use.
- Providing further markings and signage to ensure motorists are aware of their responsibility to give way to pedestrians and cyclists at side road junctions in line with the recent changes to the highway code.
- Following completion of the scheme, parking and parking compliance will be monitored to assess if further measures are required.
- Amendments made to the design at Old Cheltenham Road to retaining the existing slip road to reduce the impact on the junction capacity.
- As a result of feedback we have updated the specification of the green cycleway surfacing which will have a durable, less reflective and more textured finish. We are continuing to monitor the performance of the surfacing laid on previous sections of the route.
