Parking on the cycle facilities

Your comments...

Currently there are many vehicles parked on the pavement, grass verges, and roadside. These vehicles will probably park on the new infrastructure once built as no other provision is in place. This will force people to use the road.

It is very frustrating when trying to navigate people and parked vehicles with no consideration for the cycle route. I have experienced abuse and fear trying to get past vehicles.

Cycle lanes are always blocked by parked cars which causes safety issues as the cyclists never stick to the lanes and veer into the road.

I would like to see parking enforcement for cars that park in cycle lanes.

Our response...

The Road Traffic Act makes it an offence to drive or park a motor vehicle on a cycle track or footway. We politely request that residents respect cyclists and pedestrians when parking.

The use of double yellow lines has been considered along the length of the cycleway. Following completion of the scheme parking compliance will be monitored to assess if further measures are required. The support of the community to encourage considerate parking will help to ensure the new facilities can be enjoyed by all.
