Visibility, entrances and driveways

Your comments...

The new route will have to cross too many driveways to be safe.

Cars will pull out of driveways and entrances and not see bikes, or they will not give them and pedestrians priority.

The path and cycle track will cross many driveways across its length. What's the priority for this section and have you considered sight lines for cyclists and vehicles that cross the cycleway?

A large number of properties have entrances which will cross the cycle path. Many are not safe, do not conform to building regulations or have vegetation or other obstructions which block drivers’ visibility.

Our response...

The scheme has been designed to ensure that there is good visibility to allow safe access and egress from road junctions, entrances and driveways. The cycleway design has reflected the latest design guidance and has been subject to vigorous review by industry experts and Active Travel England to ensure that the highest possible safety standards have maintained.

The scheme design will allow motorists to slowly move forward into the footway to give them better visibility to see cyclists and the main carriageway. These changes reflect the recent updates to the Highway Code where cyclists and pedestrians now have priority.

Wherever possible, we have sought to minimise any impact on driveway visibility. There is a duty on property owners to ensure any vegetation is maintained to property boundaries.
