The Pirton Lane junction improvement scheme is the final section of the B4063 Cycleway scheme between Elmbridge Court Roundabout and Arle Court Roundabout. This is set to enter the construction phase in Spring 2025. This scheme aims to enhance the safety, efficiency, and accessibility of one of the key road intersections in Churchdown.
Key features of the scheme include:
- Upgraded Traffic Light Signals: The new signals are designed to improve the interface between different road users, ensuring a smoother flow for both vehicles and pedestrians. The signal elements of the crossings will be intelligent signals, which minimize disruption by adjusting priorities based on traffic levels at different times of the day.
- Signalised Pedestrian Crossings: To enhance pedestrian safety, the scheme will introduce improved, signalised crossings at key points, making it easier and safer for people to navigate the junction.
- Two-Way Cycle Track: The existing shared-use path will be upgraded to a new two-way cycle track along the eastbound section of Cheltenham Road, providing cyclists and pedestrians with a dedicated and protected route.
- New Bus Waiting Area: Changes will accommodate a bus waiting area in the south-west quadrant of the junction and improve pedestrian facilities around the junction. The existing pedestrian crossing will be relocated to the west of the junction to facilitate these changes.
These improvements aim to create a safer, more efficient, and accessible junction for all road users.
