School Engagement and Careers Support
Supporting young people through Modern Work Experience
As part of the government's Work Experience Guarantee, young people will increasingly benefit from a wider range of meaningful employer encounters throughout their education, helping them explore careers, understand the world of work and develop employability skills before taking part in more formal work experience placements.
At Gloucestershire County Council, we are developing a more structured and coordinated approach to work experience and careers engagement. Alongside work experience placements, we are looking to support schools and colleges through activities such as:
- Careers talks
- Assemblies
- Employability workshops
- Mock interviews
- Apprenticeship information sessions
- Careers fairs
- Industry insight sessions
- Workplace visits
These opportunities give students the chance to learn directly from GCC employees working across a wide range of professions, including social work, highways, ICT, libraries, finance, public health, business administration, fire and rescue, and many more.

The form helps us understand your requirements and allows the Early Careers Team to work with services across Gloucestershire County Council to identify suitable colleagues, availability and opportunities to support your event.
Whilst we cannot guarantee attendance for every request, we will review all submissions and work with services across the council to explore how we can support your students.
