Join colleagues from the Community and Youth Justice Team for this learning lunch exploring a child’s experience through the criminal justice system as a result of them displaying harmful sexual behaviour.
Together we will follow a child’s story through arrest, bail, court, assessment, sentencing and intervention. Whilst following the child’s story and gaining insight into the work of youth justice we will pause at significant events and explore partnership working and the challenges that professionals face when responding to children who display Harmful Sexual Behaviour. We will discuss actions taken by professionals and the outcome and impacts on the child.
Throughout this learning session we will seek to link principles of practice and approaches used including:
-
Child first principles - putting children at the heart of service provision and seeing the whole child.
-
Identify shift – identifying and promoting the influences that help a child to move to pro-social, positive behaviour.
-
Systemic approaches – understanding the child’s unique individual set of circumstances and how the child interacts with others and their environment, and they are likely to be affected by their surroundings, relationships and community to help develop interventions balancing individual and structural support
