The works
Due to the bridge Scheduled Monument and Listed Structure status, approval for works needs to be gained from Historic England and the Secretary of State prior to any works commencing.
Repair works for accident damage will include;
- Retrieval of the masonry stone in the water course, specialist contractors (salvage divers) have been engaged to undertake this.
- Assessment of the masonry for re-use in the repair.
- Confirmation of methodology with HE and Sectary of State to allow repair works.
- Erection of a scaffold to provide safe working platform for all works.
- Deconstruction of parapet.
- Reconstruction of parapet utilising specialist lime mortar.
There was planned maintenance for this structure at the south-east corner. This planned maintenance included;
- reinstatement of a section of embankment;
- crack stitching of the Thames path arch;
- vegetation removal; and
- deconstruction and rebuild of a partial length of wing wall parapet that has been damaged by vegetation growth.
We are looking to undertake these works at the same time to minimise future disruption.
