Maintenance of cycleways

Cycle paths are not maintained/swept – debris, leaves and dirt is not cleared.  Cycle lanes are overgrown and often uncared for.  

High quality surface must be used – drainage needs to minimise pooling water (as occurs at present).  

Supportive of the cycle lanes but they must be maintained otherwise investment is wasted.  

Our response...

Within the design process, every effort is being made to reduce ongoing maintenance requirements with specialist technical input at every stage. Future maintenance regimes for the cycle spine are currently being reviewed, including winter maintenance activities (trials happened in winter 2024) and appropriate levels of maintenance will be provided.
