  • Retention of the existing River Chelt culvert (no extension required).
  • Reprofiling and planting of riverbanks to enhance habitats and biodiversity.
  • New drainage system directing surface water to two attenuation basins west of the M5.
  • Creation of a flood storage area southeast of the junction to:
    • Compensate for lost floodplain
    • Reduce flood risk
    • Provide new wildlife habitats

Walking, Cycling and Accessibility

  • A dedicated route for pedestrians and cyclists through the junction.
  • Construction of a new underpass (east of the junction) for:
    • Pedestrians
    • Cyclists
    • Horse riders
    • Wildlife
  • Rerouting of Public Footpath ABO14 to maintain connectivity.
  • Retention of Public Footpath ABO16 (part 2) through the River Chelt culvert.

Access and Local Connectivity

  • A new access track northeast of the junction to replace existing field and site access points.

Access and Local Connectivity

  • A new access track northeast of the junction to replace existing field and site access points.

A new link road will be constructed to improve connectivity between M5 Junction 10 and the West Cheltenham Development Area.

Road Layout and Connections

  • Construction of a 1.4km single carriageway link road.
  • The road will connect:
    • North: A4019
    • South: B4634
  • Designed to improve access and traffic flow between the motorway and development areas.

Speed Limits and Lighting

  • 50mph speed limit along the link road.
  • 40mph speed limits at junctions and their approaches.
  • Street lighting provided at all junctions and approach roads.

Walking and Cycling

  • A segregated cycleway and footway will run along the west side of the link road, providing a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists.

Integration with Existing Roads

  • Minor works to the B4634 (Fiddler’s Green Lane) on both sides of the junction to integrate the new link road smoothly with the existing network.

Environment and Flood Management

  • The route will cross agricultural land and include:
    • Flood mitigation measures
    • A new bridge over the River Chelt
  • The bridge will:
    • Allow sufficient space for floodwater to pass
    • Maintain existing public rights of way along the riverbanks

Drainage

  • Attenuation basins will be located at both ends of the link road to manage surface water runoff from the highway.
