Stoke Orchard Highways Improvement Scheme
Scheme Background
The scheme aims to address traffic impacts from the M5 Junction 10 Improvements Scheme by introducing traffic calming measures to improve road safety and reduce noise pollution.
This scheme is part of the wider mitigation commitments linked to the Development Consent Order (DCO) for M5 Junction 10.
What is proposed
· One way traffic calming features giving priority to traffic leaving Stoke Orchard Village. These build outs will be located near St. James church and The Elms.
· Reduction of the speed limit in the village of Stoke Orchard from 30 mph to 20 mph.
· New pedestrian foot path connecting the traffic calming features near St James church and the bus stop on the corner of Archers Lane and Stoke Road.
· Replacement of drainage pipe under the new pedestrian foot path.
· New streetlighting columns along Stoke Road.
· Refresh of road markings through the village.
Key Milestones
Completed
June 2024 – Examination of M5 J10 DCO including Stoke Orchard Mitigation as a requirement
September 2024 – Stoke Orchard Project Management Team attended a community information event
December 2024 – Mitigation measures confirmed as part of the consent conditions of the DCO examination
June 2025 – Stage 1 and 2 Road Safety Audit was carried out
July 2025 – Detailed design of the scheme was completed
June 2025 – Secretary of State granted Development Consent Order to the M5 Junction 10 Scheme with Stoke Orchard mitigation as a requirement
Still to come
Winter 2025 - Secure additional funding to deliver the scheme
Winter 25/26 - Apply for a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) which is required to change the speed limit form 30 mph to 20 mph. As part of the TRO there will be a public consultation period of 21 days where you can have your say.
Spring 2026 - Commence and completion of construction
