A430 Hempsted Lane and Secunda Way Roundabout Gloucester

What are we doing?

We are resurfacing the A430 Hempsted Lane & Secuda Way Roundabout in Gloucester.

When and how are we doing this?

The resurfacing works will be carried out at night. The planned start and end dates are currently from Monday 16 September until Wednesday 2 October 2024 between the hours of 8pm-7am. The work is expected to take place for approximately 13 nights (excluding weekends). But please be aware the dates and times can be subject to change depending on the weather and other factors.

Road closure

The map below shows planned road closure areas in during these works:

Possible changes to the resurfacing schedule

Please be aware our resurfacing programme is dependent on several factors. It can be affected by things like; heavy rain, changes in temperatures and other weather events as well as unforeseen technical issues that arise once work has begun.

All this means scheme dates and details can change at short notice. We appreciate this is inconvenient, and we will keep our online schedule and our social media feeds updated with more details if changes happen.

Please keep an eye on this web page or the signs on site for any short notice changes.

Is there access for pedestrians or cyclists?

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times; however, cyclists will not have access on the carriageway that is within the road closure.

Bus information

Please visit the Stagecoach website for the latest updates about bus services 8, N8 and 11.

Information provided on Wednesday 11 September by Stagecoach outlined the following:

Service 8 to Hunts Grove will serve as far as the bus stop in Sainsbury’s car park as normal. As it leaves Sainsbury’s car park it will turn around at the roundabout to go back through the car park. At the traffic lights it will turn right onto St. Ann Way. At the 2nd set of traffic lights at the end of St. Ann Way, it will turn right onto Bristol Road. It will continue along Bristol Road until it reaches the traffic lights just after McDonald’s. It will turn left at the traffic lights to re-join the normal route towards Greenhill Drive.

Service 8 to Gloucester City Centre and Brockworth will cross over the flyover from Tuffley as normal but will then get into the 3rd lane before turning right at the 2nd set of traffic lights into Bristol Road instead of continuing straight on into Secunda Way. When it passes Toys R Us and Burger King it will turn left into St. Ann Way. At the 2nd set of traffic lights it will turn left into Sainsbury’s car park. When it reaches the car park exit it will turn around at the roundabout to go back through the car park re-joining the normal route at Sainsbury’s bus stop.

All bus stops on the diversion route will be served, however, Stagecoach will not be able to serve bus stops at Monk Meadow, Soren Larsen Way, “The Anchorage” and “The Forge” (Secunda Way) and Barn Owl Centre.

As the work involves hot asphalt and large equipment, we will be unable to allow traffic through the Road Closure. If you normally drive into or out of the Road Closure during the hours when the closure is in place, we ask you to please make alternative arrangements.

In exceptional circumstances, some level of access may be considered on a case by case basis but only where it does not impact our ability to undertake the necessary works and where it is safe to do so.

Please see the FAQ leaflet for further details.

If you usually park on the road within the road closure, you will need to find alternative parking nearby during the hours of the road closure. There is a possibility that your vehicle may be towed out of the area if it is obstructing the works.

We always consider night working as an option however there are specific environmental conditions under which we are permitted to work at night, meaning often this is not feasible. We will only work at night on key routes and where the volume of traffic per day means that any potential disruption to local residents has to be balanced against the needs of the wider public.

We appreciate that any road closure could have an impact on business operations, however to deliver the works as quickly and efficiently as possible, we kindly ask you to work with us.  To help us to complete the works with the least disruption to you, we ask you to:

  • Reschedule your deliveries to outside of our working hours
  • Where possible, please consider if staff can park outside of the closure and walk in during our operational hours or share a lift to work to limit the number of vehicles needing access. Access to vehicles will only be considered on a case by case basis but only where it does not impact our ability to undertake the necessary works and where it is safe to do so.
  • Keep your customers up to date with details of the road closure and give them details of how and when they will be able to get to you.

In most circumstances we will distribute letters before we start work to notify those within the road closure of the up coming works. The best place to get the most up-to-date information is via road signs, this web page and our social media channels. At the bottom of this page you will find letters with detail about each resurfacing scheme and the official diversion route.
