Route
The full route of the A435 Cycleway travels between the Honeybourne Line and Wellington Road in Cheltenham and the GE Aviation Roundabout in Bishop's Cleeve. It travels via Folly Lane, Hudson Street, Marle Hill Road, Wellesley Road, West Drive, Central Cross Drive and along A435 Evesham Road via the Racecourse Roundabout up to Bishop's Cleeve Roundabout.
The route will also include new shared use path links in Pittville Park and safety improvements outside Dunalley Primary School.

The route will link Cheltenham and Bishop's Cleeve and provide improved links to many destinations including:
- Several large residential areas
- Cheltenham Train Station
- Racecourse Park and Ride
- Pittville Park
- The leisure centre
- Prince of Wales Stadium
- Cheltenham Racecourse
- Cheltenham Tigers Rugby Club
- Local schools
- University of Gloucestershire campuses
- Local employers including UCAS and GE Aviation
- The Brewery complex
- Cheltenham town centre
The project is being delivered in three sections:
Section 1: Between the Honeybourne Line and Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout. Construction was completed in December 2024.
Section 2: Between Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout and the GE Roundabout, Bishops Cleeve.
Section 2 will be delivered in two phases:
- Phase 1: GWSR Bridge to Bishop’s Cleeve. Construction has commenced in January 2025 and is due to be completed in autumn 2025.
- Phase 2: Cheltenham Racecourse roundabout to GWSR Bridge. Construction is planned to begin on 19 May until end of January 2026.
Wellington Road to Central Cross Drive: Construction has started in January 2025.
Who is paying for the scheme?
Funding for the route from Cheltenham to Bishop’s Cleeve comes from Department for Transport Active Travel Funding, Section 106 contributions, and the council’s capital programme.
