Severn Trent Sewer Repair New Road, Southam

What has happened?

In December 2025, raw sewage was reported to be leaking across New Road in Southam and the surrounding private land.

What is in place?

An immediate road closure was implemented by Severn Trent Water. Unfortunately the pedestrian access through the work area has also been closed for the time being, for safety reasons due to the wet and muddy ground conditions.

Work required

On investigation of the problem Severn Trent Water identified 150 mm – 200 mm of collapsed sewer at 2 metres depth caused by tree root damage.

This entire section has required a full excavation and relaying of a new section of sewer pipe.

The works have been undertaken place during the wettest Jan/Feb we have experienced for some time, which caused water to fill the excavations and has required constant pumping of the works site.

When will the road reopen?

Severn Trent Water have advised that they have two more weeks work required. The site restoration and road reopening is currently estimated during the week commencing Monday 2 March 2026.
