Hubble Road Walking and Cycling Improvements
Sotherby Drive - residents of Sotherby Drive should have received a letter informing them of works happening at the junction of Hubble Road and Sotherby Drive on Saturday 8th October. Unfortunately, due to operational issues these works will now happen on 15th October. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Gloucestershire County Council will shortly start work to improve the walking and cycling paths in and around Hubble Road in Cheltenham. Access to and from Hubble Road from Telstar Way will also be improved.
The scope of work includes new kerb alignments, segregated cycle/footways, new and improved crossing points, and drainage works. The Sotherby Drive junction will also be improved as part of these works. Full details of the scheme can be found in the ‘Scheme drawings and plans’ box on the right.
Work will start on 28 February and residents and businesses nearby will receive a letter with more information.
The work will be completed in phases with an emphasis on keeping access to the GCHQ car park for as much of the project as possible. There will be times however, where it will be necessary to close Hubble Road in order to complete some of the works safely. Planned road closures will be made available on this page nearer the time.
Sotherby Drive residents – the work will at some point be affecting vehicular access in and out your street. Our construction team will do their best to give you a few days’ notice before this happens so that you can plan ahead. Please look out for signs about road closures on site.
When will the works start and what effects will it have on road users?
The works will start on 28 February.
To minimise disruptions on this busy road, the majority of works will take place under temporary traffic lights ensuring all traffic movements will be maintained. We will endeavour to remove the lights at the end of each shift to minimise any traffic delays. It is also likely that some sections of the footway will need to be closed at a time.
Is this part of the West Cheltenham Transport Improvement Scheme (WCTIS)?
No, this work is separate to the construction taking place at Benhall roundabout and Telstar Way, however we have co-ordinated these works to make sure the walking and cycling improvements link together seamlessly. By doing this work at the same time as WCTIS it also means nearby residents and businesses will not be disrupted twice, or for any longer than necessary.
