Inspections

Inspections

Our inspectors check roads, footways and cycleways for potholes regularly. Busy 'A' roads are for example inspected monthly and quieter routes are inspected less often. Potholes can form quickly, so it helps us if you can identify and report potholes. When you report a pothole we log it and schedule a repair where required.

You can find out more about how often we carry out our inspections in our Highways Safety Inspection Manual which is available on our highways policy page.

Roads we don’t maintain

National Highways trunk roads, for example sections of the A40, A417 and A419, and the motorways, are not roads which the county council maintain. Private or unadopted roads which are part of new developments should be maintained by the land owner or developer.
