Speed of Repairs

Completion of pothole repairs

When you report a pothole it is normally inspected within five working days and a repair will be planned if it meets the criteria set out in our Highway Safety Inspection Manual.

Pothole repairs are prioritised depending on their size and location. We also take into account the amount and speed of traffic using the road, and where the pothole is in the road. In cases where works are required to maintain public safety these are prioritised to be done within two hours or the next working day. In some cases we may do a temporary repair and a permanent repair will be carried out within 28 days.

As a general rule, if the pothole is wider than a dinner plate and deeper than the size of a golf ball (over 40mm deep) then it will be repaired within 28 days. This is in line with national standards.
