Gully emptying schedules

A drain is also known as a 'gully'. They are found along road sides and allow water to drain away through a metal grill. Every year we clear more than 130,000 gullies across the county.

The schedules below show the months when gully emptying is planned. It gives a general overview but is subject to change dependent on weather conditions and other operational issues:

Annual Programme 2025/2026 (.XLSS 40.4KB)

In the spreadsheet above you will see three tabs for three different categories:

  • 'Standard cleans' are annual cleans that require minimal traffic management
  • A and B roads require traffic management (cones and lane closures)
  • 'Multiclean' sites require cleaning more often

And you can see how gully emptying fits along side other work in our annual schedule of routine road maintenance.

Depending on the size of the road you'll see one of these trucks emptying gullies:

Report a blocked drain

If you notice a drain is blocked with leaves and other debris, you can remove the leaves yourself, if it is safe to do so. For guidance please see our Leaf It Out page.

Otherwise, you can report blocked drains using Fix My Street
