Surface Dressing

Surface Dressing

Surface dressing is a commonly used way to extend the life of a road across many authorities. The following letters provide details of scheduled works:

Although the programme is published in advance, work can only be carried out in dry weather, so the schedule may need to change at short notice. Any programme changes will appear both online and on social media: X (Twitter), Facebook

Please be aware that the crew may work on several sites each day, therefore they may not arrive at your location until later in the day.

Advice to motorists and other highways users

  • Drive/Ride carefully over the new surface to prevent damage to vehicles/bikes from loose chippings.
  • Drive/Ride at less than 20mph.
  • Keep your distance.
  • Do not overtake.

Bus service

If you use a regular bus service which travels the road being surface dressed, there may be disruption to this bus route. Please contact the relevant bus company to find out about any alternative arrangements that they may put in place during works.

Other Treatments

GripFibre

Gripfibre offers an effective and safe treatment, for example on variable substrates and winding roads. It has been proven to have exceptional retained skid resistance and durability values.

Microsurfacing

This type of treatment is generally used on urban roads (residential areas) and lasts up to 10 years. It is laid over the top of the existing surface to seal and protect it. Micro-surfacing is applied in dry, moderate to warm weather conditions.
