School Street Trial is Coming

Published
Four more schools have been successfully chosen to take part in trialling an approach outside school gates to encourage healthy and sustainable travel. Funded by Gloucestershire County Council, the next trials will be launched in the spring.

A School Street is a road, or section of road, that becomes closed to vehicular traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times and where a pedestrian and cycle friendly environment is created in front of the school.

Cam Woodfield, Longlevens Junior School, Stratton CofE Primary and Widden Primary have been carefully selected to take part in this trial. Vehicles will not be permitted to enter the zone during the School Street operating times unless they have been granted an exemption. Residents and businesses located within the School Street, as well as special groups (like staff, blue badge holders and emergency vehicles) can be granted an exemption.

Full consultation with the local and school community will take place when we launch the trial scheme and we are currently working with the schools to set up the scheme and launch the trial. Watch this space!
