The Right Choice - Whatever the Weather
There are so many benefits to active travel options but for one GCC employee, it is about having that one to one time to chat about the school day, finding out what her daughter, Lucy, is looking forward to or what exciting things she has been doing!
Anne also enjoys being able to take time out from my work day to get some fresh air and exercise. Her youngest is now able to join them on the school run occasionally and it will prepare him for when he starts school and makes the journey on foot, scooter or bike too!

The school run can be congested and stressful when using the car so more and more families are choosing a healthier, more sustainable option as Anne outlines:
“One of the factors we considered when choosing a primary school was how we would get there as we didn’t want to add to the ‘school run’ traffic and have the frustration of trying to find somewhere to safely park. We walk, scoot or cycle to school everyday whatever the weather and whilst it can be frustrating that it always seems to rain at school run time, I know that we are making the right choice."
Thanks to initiatives such as Love to Ride's 'Ride Anywhere' week and Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, more children are benefiting from more active commutes as Anne explains:
"Our School is taking part in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel challenge and we are excited to compete with other schools and be part of the move to encouraging more people to ‘walk or wheel’ to school. I would encourage people to consider how they will get to school as part of the decision making process – even if you are unable to get to your local school, you can consider options such as parking a little further away from the school and walking the last part.”

More good reasons to walk and wheel
So what does Lucy think?
“I like walking to school as I get to see lots of different things like being able to spot flowers in spring time or being out in the sunshine in the summer! I also get to learn about how to cross roads safely. I like scooting to school the most as it is so much fun!”
Here at Thinktravel, we couldn't agree more!
