Mobile Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS)

Communities can bid for a mobile sign which is activated by approaching vehicles. These can show the speed of approaching vehicles or present a happy or sad face depending on the speed of the vehicle. This will give an instant message to motorists.

The signs are solar powered.

There are a number of rules about the use of these signs:

  • They must be in line with our mobile VAS policy (PDF, 339.3 KB)
  • There must be a nominated manager of the sign who will be responsible for its safe and proper use
  • Signs can’t be left in one place all of the time, you will need to identify a number of safe and appropriate locations for the sign, and the sign would need to be moved regularly between those locations
  • The applicant must have public liability insurance in place
  • Parishes / communities which already have a VAS sign cannot apply for one through this fund
