More about the team
Once a person is referred to the team, the council retains responsibility for that person’s financial affairs until they either regain capacity or they pass away. It is likely that once a person is referred, the Client Affairs Team will remain responsible for that person’s financial affairs until their death. This means we have the opportunity to work with clients on a long-term basis over many years.
The Client Affairs Team are subject to supervision by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) who last carried out an assurance visit in August 2022 which concluded “there was strong evidence that the client affairs team provide a high quality and much-valued service to the vulnerable people within Gloucestershire County Council”.
The team is based in Shire Hall in Gloucester City Centre, but we are often out and about visiting clients and looking after our client’s properties all across the county.
‘My role is looking after people’s finances under a court of protection order. These are people who’ve lost their mental capacity, people with dementia, any disabilities, mental health and so on. I think it’s very vital to have people like myself in the community working in Adult Social Care.
"One of the things that interested me about working in Adult Social Care is looking after people because I’m a carer for my Mum as well. I feel this meant something for me to give back to the community. The team is structured really well and we’re so supportive of one another. Working in a team is good to help your mental health as well, having that connection and bond with each other.’ Client Affairs Deputyship Manager
