New UK drought support for farming

Following prolonged hot and dry weather, the Government has announced a £65 million package to help farmers in England manage immediate pressures and strengthen future resilience.
This includes an additional £50 million for the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 and up to £15 million to support on-farm reservoirs, alongside action to simplify reservoir development and improve access to water during drought conditions strengthen water security, improve resilience to future droughts and invest in sustainable farming practices.
Gloucestershire farmers and land managers are encouraged to review the new support and prepare for upcoming application windows to maximise funding opportunities for their business.
The Water Management Grant is expected to open this autumn, while SFI Window 2 opens in September.
