Cinderford outdoor gym receives funding from County Council’s Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund

The funding, awarded by Cllr Ray Donaghue, county councillor for Cinderford, supported the expansion of the outdoor gym area at Miners Welfare Playing Field in Cinderford. The grant funded the installation of new parallel bars and a square pull-up station, helping to create more opportunities for residents to take part in free physical activity. 

The Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund gives each of the county’s 55 councillors up to £20,000 to invest in local projects that improve health, wellbeing and community resilience. Grants between £250 and £5,000 are available for initiatives that address local needs, tackle inequalities, and help communities to thrive.  

Cinderford Town Council delivered the project in response to requests from residents to expand the existing outdoor gym facilities. The enhanced gym will provide accessible, free opportunities for exercise for people of all ages and abilities. 

Cllr Ray Donaghue county councillor for Cinderford, said: "I'm delighted to support the Cinderford Outdoor Gym Project with this funding. Expanding these facilities will help more residents access free opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing. Outdoor exercise spaces remove many of the barriers people can face when trying to be active, and this investment will create a welcoming community resource that can be enjoyed by people of all ages."
