Kingsholm House
Kingsholm House Children’s Home is a new provision developed in line with the National Framework based on “Stable Homes, Built on Love.” Central to the National Framework is a belief that the lives of children, young people and families can be different. Our aim is to provide high quality love, care, protection and stability for children / young people using a trauma–informed approach.
We are recruiting staff and all adverts will be posted on our Children’s Home Recruitment page so please do keep checking for updates.
The purpose of Kingsholm House Children’s Home is to provide a home for 8 children and young people of all genders aged between 13 – 17 years. The home will provide four single ensuite study bedrooms for children with a plan of Long-Term Residential Care and four self-contained studio flats for children and young people preparing for independence (aged 16-18).
How will we support children and young people?
We have an experienced staff team staff comprising of the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, Team Leaders and Residential Practitioners. All staff members use a trauma informed approach. All members of the staff team will support the care plan and pathway plan for each child / young person placed in the home.
The staff team will work with the virtual school to provide a high level of educational support for all the children / young people that live in the home. The staff team promotes life skill development and learning through play, fun and new experiences, in a safe and supported environment. The staff team will play an active role in the health education of children and young people by providing them with advice and information which is age and understanding appropriate.
By creating a nurturing environment that balances guidance with independence, the team at Kingsholm House Children’s Home will empower children to face future challenges with confidence, ultimately leading to more successful and fulfilling adult lives.
What will it be like to live here?
The staff team will encourage and support children and young people to make decisions about their lives and to influence how the home is run. We will also involve children and young people’s views in the day to day running of the home, using regular young people’s meetings as well as a range of communication methods to obtain feedback, which may include verbal, written, pictorial, behavioural or making use of technological aids.

The home is decorated in a comfortable and modern style, with a homely feel despite the large size of the building. The décor and furnishings were chosen with support from children who are ambassadors for the council. Children and young people will be encouraged to invest in their living environment, personalising aspects of it and contributing towards its maintenance. Young people living in the self-contained flats will be encouraged to take responsibility for furnishing and maintaining the cleanliness of their living space as part of preparing to live independently as they transition to adulthood.
The staff team recognises and values the relationships that children and young people will have developed prior to moving into the home. This includes relationships with friends as well as family members. Our trauma informed approach will support children and young people to maintain existing relationships as well as support them to develop new friendships.
Children and young people at the home will be encouraged and given opportunities to take part in a range of activities both in and out of the house. Children and young people will be encouraged to participate with staff in planning these events.
