Children in Care

Our teams have expert knowledge and work predominantly with children and young people who have a plan for adoption or are unaccompanied and seeking asylum.

We work hard to share this knowledge and experience across all teams.

Who we are

Our teams consist of a team manager, an advanced practitioner, and four social workers.

We have two teams who have one family support worker each.

All our teams have permanent, experienced managers in place.  We are a friendly and welcoming service, with cohesive teams who work together to provide children and young people with the best possible care from their corporate parents.

These dedicated social workers are responsible for all children who are looked after by Gloucestershire as a local authority after their care proceedings end, ensuring that their care plans and permanence are progressed in timely ways.  All teams work in partnership with internal and external professionals as well as birth families. This includes Fostering, Every Story Matters, Children and families commissioning, independent reviewing officers, education and health.

Skills you'll need

We are a friendly and outgoing service, one where we look out for one another and are committed to going above and beyond for our children and young people.

We are proud of the hideaway which is a safe space for our young people to access support within Shire Hall complex.

We are running additional services such as English as a Second Language and a support group for care experienced parents which are highly attended.

We love to see organised, creative and proactive individuals apply for posts within our teams as we can support your learning and knowledge around children in care, fostering and education for children and young people in care.

Why you should join us

Here's what one of our senior social workers, Aidan, says:

“Team 3 is a supportive team; you are never on your own as there is always someone to talk to or help you.

"There is always management oversight and support from Nikki which is important and enables us to support our children and young people safely.

"We are a small team so we meet up a lot so we can talk about our young people or talk about anything.  We have excellent admin support."
