Placement Supervisors and Practice Educators

Placement Supervisors work alongside a student placed in their team, offering day-to-day case management, support and guidance, and contributing towards the assessment of the student’s practice.
Practice Educators may be based in the same or a different team. They support students to develop their critical reflection skills, make links between theory and practice and support and assess their practice against relevant assessment criteria.
Working with social work students is an opportunity to shape and influence the profession as well as to develop leadership skills such as supervision and providing feedback to enable others to develop their practice.
The Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) and Values Statements provide a framework which supports the provision of high quality, effective practice learning opportunities. These are organised under four domains:
- Working with others to organise an effective learning environment.
- Teaching, facilitating and supporting learning and professional development in practice.
- Managing the fair and transparent assessment of students in practice.
- Developing knowledge and continuing performance as a practice educator.
