Systemic Practice

Here in Gloucestershire Systemic Practice informs how we work with children, young people, families, partner-agencies and each other.

Systemic practice is an evidence-based way of working that appreciates how people make sense out of their lives and derive meaning through relationships, the quality of which are key in the construction as well as the resolution of problems. Systemic interventions are designed to help people make lasting changes in their thinking, behaviour and understanding to relieve distress, improve the quality of significant relationships and make positive changes in their lives. This makes systemic practice a particularly good fit with social work practice and working with whole families, children and young people.

To successfully implement this model, we recognise that there needs to be a clear development programme to support you in your learning and implementation of systemic practice ideas and approaches. Our aim is to provide you with support, whether these are new ideas or you are looking to extend your thinking and relationship with systemic theories and ideas in practice. We have therefore designed a staged approach to our learning offer to you; this includes an E-learning series to introduce you to core systemic principles an Introduction to Systemic Practice and a Foundation in Systemic Practice.

Each year we support and fund a cohort of practitioners to access the Intermediate Systemic Training Programme delivered by the Centre for Systemic Social Work and for those who successfully complete this programme there is an opportunity to go on and complete a Masters Degree is Systemic Practice.
