We appreciate you

Working in partnership with Ann James and the Social Work Academy, our Ambassadors have created Direct Work Kits for Social Workers and Family Support Workers who do direct work with children and young people.

Direct Work Kits & Resources for Practitioners

Their aim is to support direct work with children and young people. Becca (Ambassador)  said "these kits are designed to spark creativity when working with a child or young person, our goal is to get the most out of direct work and always ensure the child's voice is the focus". In addition, each team will have funds to spend on resources as part of their team/locality resource library, which will be made up of more expensive items which can be shared and built up.

The Direct Work Kits are for Social Workers and Family Support Workers in the Assessment, Safeguarding, Families First, Under 11’s Permanency, 11-25’s Permanency, Edge of Care, DCYPS, Fostering Teams, Contact Team, TACS and Family Group Conference teams.

The Direct Work Kits will be delivered to teams as part of The Big Participation Conversation, a facilitated meeting by Ambassadors with each service to include Head of Service, Service Manager, Team Managers and Participation Champions to explore, understand and plan for the development of participation in your area in the coming year. In this Ambassadors will talk through what can be found in the Direct Work Kits and how this can be used.  A catalogue of resources will also be shared to help you choose your items, which could include Therapeutic books, games and play items e.g. multicultural puppets, large paper roll, building blocks etc. Teams can decide which items to buy to cater for their specialism and need. Part of the discussion will be to encourage teams to join up across a Locality/Service to avoid duplication and help resources to go further.

The Big Participation Conversation is taking place into June and July.

Ambassadors and The Participation Team

“Ambassadors have spent the past few days carefully selecting and packing several direct work tools which include things such as pens, fidget toys etc. along with Language that Cares information and more. We plan to pack and deliver 500 of these direct work tool bags and are already well on our way, these packs are designed to spark creativity when working with a child or young person, our goal is to get the most out of direct work and always ensure the child's voice is the focus”.Becca, Ambassador.
