Your rights and how to use them

Under data protection legislation you have rights over the use of your information.
Your rights change depending on the lawful basis used, so once you have identified what the service you are engaging with is using, please use the table below to see what information rights you have.

Right of Access
You have a right to access any information the council holds about you.
To access any personal information which may have been recorded by our CCTV and surveillance camera systems, you must provide:
- your name,
- your address,
- your date of birth,
- the details of the information you are requesting.
The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for us to find the relevant recording. This includes:
- Time,
- Date,
- Location (and location of the camera if possible),
- Description of people (clothing being worn, etc.),
- Car registration numbers (if applicable), and
- Any other identifiable features.
The availability of these recordings will be subject to the retention period for each individual system.
All SARs received by the council will be handled in confidence. The identity of other data subjects will be protected by blurring the images.
