Care Quality Commission Inspection of adult social care

Published

We recently received notification from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that we are to submit our information return.

This is the first stage in an inspection process which was introduced as part of a new regulatory regime for local authority adult social care teams as part of the Health and Care Act 2022.

As a result, we now know that CQC are likely to visit us in the next six months, and we will receive six weeks’ notice of their inspection. We have already undertaken a lot of preparation in readiness.

A key element of the regulatory process is the development of a self-assessment which is an opportunity to share with CQC and the public how well we know ourselves. It identifies what we do well and the areas where we need to improve. We tested it with a Local Government Association (LGA) Peer Review in September who agreed with our assessment and made a series of recommendations, which formed the basis of an improvement plan which is well underway.
