The Centre for Governance and Scrutiny are hosting a free to attend, virtual event on the topic of ‘Navigating finance scrutiny: a webinar for elected members’. The event will be taking place on 18 December 12-2pm.

The webinar accompanies the release of our latest Finance publication ‘Financial scrutiny: a guide for members’. This activity is supported by funding from HM Government and is designed to guide elected members in effectively scrutinising financial matters within English councils. The agenda includes:

  • Introduction to Finance Scrutiny: An overview of the upcoming publication, offering practical insights for councillors new to the subject.
  • Operationalising Financial Information: Explore strategies to translate the information outlined in the publication into actionable steps, aiding members in addressing current financial challenges.
  • Best Practices in Finance Scrutiny: Learn how to conduct effective finance scrutiny, encourage good practices, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Enhancing Long-Term Financial Resilience: Gain insights into setting the tone for councils' future plans and contributing to financial resilience amidst uncertainty.
