Holocaust Memorial Day - Friday 26th January

Published

Please join our event on Friday, 26 January at 11am to mark this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day.

What is Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD)?
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day on 27 January to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and in more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. It is an occasion for everyone to come together to learn, remember and reflect.  The theme for HMD 2024 is Fragility of Freedom.

Holocaust Memorial Day event – Friday, 26 January

This year, we would like to invite all staff and councillors to join our event at 11am on Friday, 26 January in the Council Chamber, Shire Hall.

It’s an opportunity to join colleagues to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust and the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides. It is also a chance to think about and remember others that have been affected by war and conflict, both today and throughout history.

Pete Bungard (Chief Executive), Mark Hawthorne (Leader of the Council) and Mark Preece (Chief Fire Officer) will share their thoughts, light a candle and lead a minute’s silence.

The event will also be available to watch online and we will provide the link shortly.
