Join us for White Ribbon Day: Monday 25 November
We hope some of you will have had the chance to talk to Abi, Phil and Pete from the White Ribbon Steering Group at Full Council on Wednesday about our White Ribbon work.
White Ribbon is a UK charity whose mission is to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes of harmful attitudes and behaviours around masculinity that perpetuate gendered inequality and violence.
The county council became White Ribbon Accredited in July 2023. A motion, proposed by Cllr Kathy Williams and Cllr Philip Robinson, was passed at a council meeting in November 2022 following an incredibly powerful speech by Cllr Rebecca Halifax. The council is committed to, and working towards, ending violence against women.
White Ribbon recognises that not all men are violent. However, the sad reality is that the majority of violence against women and girls is perpetrated by men. Not all men are the problem, but it is essential that all men be part of the solution. It is not enough to simply not be violent - men must play a part in changing a culture in which gendered violence is embedded.
The White Ribbon Network holds quarterly events and shares free training resources to support everyone in the network to learn more about our work and how they can help work towards the elimination of violence against women and girls.
The next event will be held on White Ribbon Day, Monday 25 November 9.00am – 1.00pm in the Council Chamber or online. Our guest will share insights into different types of abuse, patterns in perpetrator behaviour, and help to dispel common myths surrounding domestic abuse.
Keep up to date with future events and training resources here.
