Sponsor a tree

Published

Gloucestershire County Council is promoting a new “Trees for Streets “ project, which is a collaboration between the Woodland Trust, Trees for Cities and Gloucestershire County Council.

Urban trees have many benefits, including providing a buffer against noise pollution, particulate pollution, shade in hot weather, reducing heat loss from buildings in cooler weather and reducing flood risk through absorbing water.

The tree sponsorship scheme allows anyone to nominate a location for a street tree to be planted. It has just 4 simple steps:

  1. Simply drop a pin on to our online map to tell us where you’d like your new street tree planted. We may ask for a few more details about your chosen spot to work out whether it’s possible to plant there.
  2. We’ll pass your sponsorship request to your council. One of their tree officers will check the location to see if it’s suitable for planting. We’ll let you know once your request is confirmed.
  3. Your tree is planted. Once your tree is confirmed, we’ll take your sponsorship payment and prepare for planting. Most councils plant new trees in late autumn – we’ll let you know when it’s happening.
  4. Each summer we’ll text or email to remind you to water your tree – so you’ll be able to enjoy it for years to come…

Some members have chosen to allocate ‘Highways Local’ funding to sponsor trees in their local area. You can find out more and sponsor a street tree here - https://sponsor.treesforstreets.org/provider/gloucestershire-county-council
