White Ribbon Intersectionality Event – Monday 8 September
All councillors are invited to attend the next White Ribbon Event, on Monday 8 September, from 9am to12.30pm, in-person or online.
It is great to see that so many councillors have already signed up for our next event. These events are open to all, and it would be great to have even more of you there.
What is White Ribbon?
A corporate campaign focussed on eliminating and preventing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). GCC became White Ribbon accredited back in 2023 and have since been organising regular training and events to help raise awareness and support GCC employees understand how they can play a part in ending VAWG.
Why should you get involved?
Learning about VAWG- how to spot it, what different forms it can take and the different levels, such as subtle misogyny, harassment, and domestic abuse- is important for anyone with close contact with the community.
What is the September Event about?
This session will explore how Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) intersects with other aspects of identity such as race, religion, disability, and age. The aim is to deepen understanding of how overlapping factors shape individual experiences of abuse.
Event Details
The next White Ribbon Intersectionality Event is scheduled for Monday 8 September 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and will be held in a hybrid format, both in-person in the Council Chamber and online via Microsoft Teams.
Highlights of the event include:
- Honour based abuse: a talk by Saleha Moolla, who brings frontline experience from her work with victims of honour-based abuse and forced marriage. Saleha is also a long-standing member of the White Ribbon steering group
- Domestic Abuse in Older Age: A session led by colleagues from Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Support Service (GDASS), focusing on the unique risks faced by older individuals.
There is not one type of VAWG, and the more we understand its different forms, the better we can support those affected.
