Grass cutting

Published
With the warmer weather our county is now in full bloom.

To ensure the safety of road users and maintain visibility, we cut the grass at some junctions and bends during the spring. Where possible, Gloucestershire County Council also supports No Mow May, to help biodiversity thrive which is why we concentrate on a limited visibility cut at this time. The dates of cutting vary each year depending on the weather, and this year we have started safety cuts during May. Parish and district councils may also choose to cut grass verges during May.

Later in the season we carry out a full cut; we cut a 1m swathe on all roads, as well as cut-backs at junctions and bends for visibility. We focus on our A and B road network at the start of the season and alongside this we carry out cuts on the minor roads. When cutting along dual carriageways we use traffic management or lane closures and this is a great opportunity to carry out other works which are also needed on those roads at the same time.
