Case study - Eid celebrations at Beachley
Celebrations for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha were held in April and June 2024 at Beachley Barracks. Communities and organisations came together to celebrate with over 100 families temporarily living at the barracks as part of the ARAP Operation Lazurite.
The Ministry of Defence arranged a series of events and displays, with tents, music, dancing and delicious food.
Everyone was invited to take part in a wide range of sports activities, including football for both men and women, and cricket. This included a very entertaining cricket match between the MoD and residents (better luck next time MoD!)
There were arts and crafts activities for adults and children, supported by the district council and groups of volunteers. Young people were also able to have their hands painted with incredibly beautiful henna decorations.
At the Edi al-Adha celebration there were displays from the police, fire service and Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) who thrilled the children especially with the emergency vehicles, flashing lights and sirens.
Everyone had a great time, communities, local people and organisations and personal thanks were received from the community Elders onsite.
Thank you to all who helped made these two feasts so joyful.
