01
Slavutych is a town created for the evacuees of the Chernobyl explosion.
02
Shortly after the war started in Ukraine, Slavutych was invaded and the majority of residents fled to the UK. Unbeknown to each other, over 20 found sponsors in the small town of Painswick in Gloucestershire.
03
Slowly but surely, hosts and guests met up and lifelong bonds were formed. Guests still had strong links with their adopted hometown of Slavutych and their local mayor.
04
A friendship and cooperation agreement was forged between the two towns and endorsed by the Parish council and Mayor of Slavutych.
05
Residents and guests of Painswick started to carry out acts of kindness which included sending food, clothing and presents for children to Slavutych. Thanks to local resident Phil Taylor and volunteers, a community group was formed.
06
The towns are now proudly twinned officially as displayed in the road signs which are displayed on roads into Painswick.
