Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees

Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees (CWR) offers vital support for families arriving under resettlement schemes, asylum seekers, and those granted leave to remain. They provide social activities, advice, and formal referrals through partnerships with GARAS. CWR also collaborates with Cheltenham Volunteer Teachers to offer homework support and a range of English classes.

In addition, CWR works to challenge negative perceptions of refugees through educational and awareness-raising initiatives, such as the "New Chapters" exhibition, showcasing art and photography by refugees.

They also provide bikes and support for driving theory tests, enabling newcomers to explore Cheltenham and its countryside. Through partnerships with Cheltenham Town Football Club, Everyman Theatre, and Cheltenham Festivals, they offer tickets to matches, plays, and events.

For employability, CWR assists with CV preparation, signposts online courses like First Aid and Food Hygiene, and helps access statements of comparability for existing qualifications, actively supporting refugees in their journey to work.
