Advice line for schools and settings
ATS accept requests for involvements from schools and early years settings. We encourage schools and other settings to make use of our advice lines for lower level SEN needs, and also prior to making a written request for involvement in order to avoid disappointment.
The advice lines operate during term-time afternoons, between the following times:
12.45pm-3.45pm daily
If children are not known to ATS, a “no names” conversation may be conducted. This may include a recommendation, if appropriate, to make a referral to ATS.
Some teams offer advice line support, whereas other teams encourage direct contact with the Advisory Teacher who is allocated to the school - please use the team information below.
Making a request for ATS involvement
We are currently experiencing a high volume of referrals. In order to direct your referral appropriately, and to avoid delay in processing, we need your referral to be as informative as possible.
Top tips:
- Have you considered using the ATS advice lines as a first step for a no names conversation with a specialist teacher?
- Have you indicated the correct team, in line with the information you have supplied (C&I - Communication and Interaction, C&L - Cognition and Learning, SEMH – social, emotional and mental health, PD - Physical Disabilities, HI – Hearing Impairment, VI – Visual Impairment, MSI – Multi-sensory Impairment) – this will help direct to the correct specialist team.
- Have you checked our website to consider whether the child or young person meets our team(s) criteria?
- Have you used the information on Glos Families Directory with regards to the Graduated Pathway (for example, does the My Assessment give sufficient and factual information about the young person's lived experience?)
- Have you included/referred to any relevant information or advice from health or medical professionals?
- Have you been specific about the nature of the support you require? (For example, avoid general statements such as “Advice to support better progress in school”, or “Advice to help him/her meet their potential”). This will help in ensuring that it is sent to the correct team.
- Is the information consistent (do Plan outcomes match child's needs/the information contained within the request?)
